Diagnostic testing for COVID-19 is critical. No one disputes this. But what is in dispute is whom to test and when to test, how to test, and what to do while waiting for results and how accurate those results are when you finally get them. The quick release of results meaningfully guides clinical decisions and immediately isolates infected individuals from spreading the virus. Delayed test results waste resources and cost human lives.

BioPATH COVID-19 real-time PCR tests are performed on 2 platforms:

• For traditional testing, our laboratory is equipped with fully automated Perkin Elmer Pre-NAT extraction and Thermo Fisher Quant Studio-5 real-time machines capable of doing no less than 1,000 tests per day. Results are released within 24-48 hours of receiving a patient’s sample swab.
• For random access and near-patient care testing with rapid turnaround time results, we use the GeneXpert. Results are available within 6 hours of receiving a sample. Due to the limited supply of Xpert cartridges, we provide the GeneXpert test on a priority basis and only for patients who need it most, per doctor’s request.

To ensure traditional tests are reliably performed, released on time, and able to meet the expectations of patients, partners, and stakeholders, our policy is to only perform tests that have been booked in advance. We need to strictly follow our schedules to ensure test results are released within 24-48 hours. No pre-booking, no testing. We also discourage “chance” requests for testing. Therefore, we need to establish an agreement with clients (healthcare providers, privately-held companies, LGUs, employment recruiters, and the like) who wish to obtain appropriate and priority services from our COVID-19 Real-Time PCR laboratories.

Unlike many laboratories that began to offer RT-PCR testing services only this year as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, BioPATH has already been doing real-time PCR testing for nearly 15 years. For suspected COVID-19 cases, we are capable of doing reflex testing (respiratory panel, which includes influenza). We also offer tests for other infectious diseases (HIV-I and HCV Viral Load Monitoring, HPV, CT/NG, C. difficile, MRSA, Norovirus, influenza/RSV, MTB/RIF, GBS), as well oncology/hematologic malignancy (BCR-ABL, FII/FV).
